A very relaxing day at a show put on by some very nice people. There were many cars I had not seen before. Many AMC cars which you do not see very often. On the way to the show was on Highway 12 behind Hot Rod Power Tour cars, it would of been a long wait to get into Cambridge.
This is a unique show in several respects. Yes, it is geared towards Rambler, Nash, American Motors cars, which doesn't happen at any other shows. This show pulls a very nice assortment of these cars, old and new, from many adjoining states. I believe the long distance award went to a car from Keokuk, Iowa.
The other unique feature of this show is the food. The organizer and promoter of this show (Mike Spangler) has a pig roast prepared for the show, and prior to trophy presentations at the end of the show, he feeds everyone with pulled pork, bbq beans, salads, bread, drinks, and cold beer! The registration fee for this show is , yep, that's right, only , which includes the free meal for everyone, including wives, kids, friends, etc. I realize that it is not right or proper to drink and drive, but some folks took advantage of the free cold beer, but, I am certain they had wives, girlfriends, or designated drivers to get them home.
Also, the trophies for this show (maybe 30 to 40?) are recycled from other shows, years past. The show asks for old trophies to be donated and they are sent out for recycling and refurbishing which is done at an trophy and award shop in Watertown, then rebuilt and reused. Pretty neat idea!
All in all, a great location, a great show from beginning to end (the organizer and his family and employees treat everyone as if they are a part of his family), outstanding food, nice door prizes. It doesn't get much better than this.
My personal congratulations to BigBlock for a Best of Show (GM) award with the Pontiac Judge. Way to go Mike!!!!!!
Also, congrats to Mickey Christianson for her Best of Show (Modified) win with the '50 Merc.
