Friday night there is a a grill your meat (they have some grills set up) get together along with a cruise. A few of the VW camper guys camped at the show venue (which was covered in ants....).

My adventure started at 5AM when I left Madison to Eau Claire. Unfortunately there is no easy way to get to Eau Claire without taking the interstate, so I headed up 12 to 94. After 105 miles I pulled in to get some gas and donuts. Got 35 MPG (I pull the roof rack). Rolled into the venue at 8:30 and I was #1 into the show (I guess those VW folks like to sleep in). They had goodie bags with a nice thank-you letter, schedule of events for the day and a 2 page survey on the show (nice idea), and some VW related stickers (that now look nice on my fridge in my garage. The dash plaque was a magnet and is about 2.5X the size of a normal metal one (it is now attached to my old school cooler)

Park where you want. Participant Judging (pick your top 10 and then top 25 win a framed certificate and a 5 dollar gas card to Kwik Trip). There were a dozen water cooled cars and I don't any of them made the top 25 ....

They had a couple of events for the kids including paint the short bus. And a valve drop for the adults. 1 dollar to drop 6 valves into 6 cylinders. The winner gets 1/2 the cash and the other half went to the boys and girls club.

They also had a raffle for a couple of VW bus's (2 smaller ones and one giant 1:6 one) with the proceeds going to boys and girls club. Lucky me I won the huge remote controlled bus (I checked on ebay and there is one buy it now for 350 bucks).

They had 12 vendors selling various VW related junk.

Overall this was a great show and it has a lot of stuff packed into it and it is nice to see the money going to a great cause!

Now my trip home was a little adventure... I drove about 70 miles pulled off to get some gas and I opened the engine lid to make sure all was well and I found oil sprayed all over the engine and oil dripping down the deck lid..... I limped it home (pulled over 4 more times to wipe it down) the last 110 miles, and I think I found the source of the leak (temp sensor).
